Guterres: The world is moving towards multipolarity

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: He considered the multipolarity of the world as a basis for ensuring justice in global governance and international relations, and emphasized that this situation can support effective multilateralism and a United Nations without double standards.

 

At the summit, which was attended by leaders of member and observer states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Guterres called for reform of multilateral institutions, including the United Nations and the Bretton Woods financial system, to increase the representation and influence of developing countries. The UN Secretary-General also stressed the need for maximum restraint in the conflicts in the Middle East and compliance with international agreements and laws, and emphasized the preservation of freedom of navigation around the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab.

 

In another part of his speech, Guterres called for a ceasefire in Gaza, the immediate removal of obstacles to humanitarian aid, and an end to settler attacks and the expansion of settlements in the West Bank, emphasizing that peace is only possible through a two-state solution.

 

Regarding the war in Ukraine, the UN Secretary-General also called for a complete and immediate ceasefire, saying that this measure could pave the way for negotiations to achieve a just, sustainable, and inclusive peace. Guterres concluded by emphasizing the need to reform the global financial structure, provide greater support to developing countries, combat climate change, and use artificial intelligence responsibly.
