Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate, made these statements in a message to the scientific-research conference “Sustainable Management of Afghanistan’s Natural Resources”; a conference organized by the Afghan Academy of Sciences.
The Prime Minister considered the holding of this conference an important, appropriate, and in line with the needs of the country, and said that Afghanistan is blessed with diverse natural resources, and protecting these resources and utilizing them properly and fairly is the responsibility of every citizen of the country.
He added that water, fertile soil, forests, pastures, mines and other natural resources create important infrastructure for the country's economic growth and ensuring the welfare of the people; therefore, scientific recognition of these resources, healthy management, regular use and sustainable protection of them play an important role in Afghanistan's progress and economic self-sufficiency.
Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund said that Afghanistan is facing various challenges and problems as a result of natural changes, population growth and improper use of natural resources, and therefore, the country's scientific community and research centers must seek scientific and practical solutions to solve these problems.
He also emphasized that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan pays special attention to improving and promoting the professional capacities of scientific and specialized research centers.
Meanwhile, Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulvi Fariduddin Mahmud, Director General of the Afghan Academy of Sciences, in a message read by Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulvi Amirjan Saqib, Deputy Director of Natural and Technical Sciences of the center, emphasized the need for scientific assessment of natural capacities, standard and sustainable management, and reasonable utilization of natural resources.
The message states that the Afghan Academy of Sciences considers conducting basic and applied research on important natural, technical, economic, and social issues, producing credible scientific evidence, and coordinating with scientific and specialized capacities as its basic duties.
Based on this message, the Academy of Sciences strives to present scientific and professional suggestions for formulating strategies, policies, and development programs of relevant departments based on research findings.
It has also been emphasized that the purpose of holding this conference should not only be to present scientific and research articles; Rather, the results of the research should be used to scientifically analyze the current state of natural resources, identify existing capacities and limitations, identify problem factors, and provide practical solutions for better use of these resources.
On the other hand, Dr. Abdul Latif Nazari, the Deputy Minister of Economy, referring to the management of the country's water resources, said that under the rule of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the country's water resources have been managed, calling this process historically unprecedented.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, in sending a message to this conference, considered its holding a valuable platform for scientific deliberation, exchange of experiences, and provision of effective solutions in the field of protection, restoration, development, and sustainable management of the country's natural resources.
The ministry said that within the framework of applicable policies and laws, it has always been committed to protecting, restoring, and developing the country's natural resources in order to provide the basis for sustainable use of these resources and increase the revenues of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
The conference emphasized the importance of scientific research in the natural resources sector, sustainable management of these resources, and reasonable use of the country's natural capacities.
Participants also discussed strengthening scientific and research activities to address challenges in the natural resources sector, and about 31 scientific and research papers were presented during the conference.
