Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The Canadian government has issued a new advisory warning its citizens to refrain from traveling to Afghanistan due to the risk of terrorist attacks, armed conflicts, kidnappings, arbitrary detention, and high crime rates.
The announcement states that the security situation in Afghanistan is very unstable and dangerous and that the Canadian embassy in the country has suspended its activities and is unable to provide consular services.
This warning comes at a time when Islamic Emirate officials have repeatedly emphasized establishing complete security throughout the country.
Abdul Matin Qane, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Emirate, had previously said in response to similar warnings from some Western countries that the security of foreign guests and tourists is the ministry's priority and that there are no concerns about kidnappings or security threats in Afghanistan.
Despite the warnings from Western countries, statistics show that the number of foreign tourists has increased in recent years.
The Ministry of Information and Culture of the Islamic Emirate announced that last year, about 10,000 foreign tourists visited Afghanistan's historical and natural attractions.
Officials of the Islamic Emirate have also said that the process of obtaining tourist visas has been facilitated and the infrastructure for receiving tourists is being developed.
However, China, like Canada, has warned its citizens about traveling to Afghanistan and has asked them to refrain from traveling to the country.
