Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Nepal police said the death toll from landslides and floods in the country had reached 1,342 as of 5 a.m. Saturday.
Police said 4,898 people were still missing and search and rescue operations were ongoing in the affected areas.
On Wednesday, August 26, a devastating flood erupted in the Himalayan mountains near the Nepal-China border, sending huge amounts of water into the Bhut Koshi and Trishuli-Narayani river systems.
The raging flood destroyed homes and roads and destroyed a key border crossing between Nepal and China.
