Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to Arabi 21, Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, warned that the Israeli regime's clearing of the rubble of the Gaza Strip could lead to the destruction of important evidence of the regime's brutal crimes against Palestinian civilians and hinder efforts to recover the bodies of martyrs and identify them.
Albanese stated in her statement that the collection of evidence and the identification of victims should be carried out before any comprehensive operation to clear the rubble. He stressed the need for Palestinians to play a role and responsibility in developing and implementing plans for clearing the rubble.
The UN official added that the rubble in Gaza “does not only mean the ruins of buildings, but also part of a crime scene, a cemetery and a physical document.”
Albanese said that several sources had informed him that Israeli companies were involved in the rubble clearance operations.
Albanese’s warnings come as the UN has estimated the volume of rubble and debris accumulated in the Gaza Strip at around 61 million tons and predicted that clearing this volume of destruction could take around seven years.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office or the Israeli army have not yet responded to Albanese’s statements. These three terrorist organizations have repeatedly strongly rejected his positions on the Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip.
On the other hand, Hamas welcomed Albani's warning and called for the rubble to be cleared in a way that ensures the recovery of the bodies of the missing and the preservation of evidence.
In this regard, the Gaza Strip's Ministry of Public Health announced that more than 73,000 Palestinians have been martyred during the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Palestinian authorities estimate that more than 8,000 martyrs are still buried under the rubble. A Palestinian team discovered the bodies of 112 members of a single family during a search operation in Gaza City last month.
