In A Statement:

A US-led soldier dies of non-battle injuries in Afghanistan

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA), International Service , 28 Apr 2012 - 19:39

A US-led soldier with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has died in troubled southern Afghanistan, the Western military alliance said in a statement.

The statement said the soldier died of non-combat related injuries in the Afghanistan’s south.

The alliance has not yet released further details regarding the soldier’s identity or the exact location of the incident.

According to official figures released by the website icasualties.org, at least 134 foreign soldiers have lost their lives in war-battered Afghanistan so far this year.

Despite the presence of tens of thousands of US-led forces in Afghanistan, insecurity continues to rise across the Asian country.

Attacks on foreign troops hit record highs at this time of the year, which is referred to as the Taliban Spring Offensive.

The rising number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other members of the Western military alliance, undermining public support for the US-led war.
