Kabul conference to focus on terror havens in Pakistan
An International Conference on the future of Afghanistan is scheduled to be organized on Thursday to discuss the issues of Afghanistan ahead of the departure of foreign troops from the country in 2014.

The Afghan government is also expected to renew pressures on pakistan in order to take actions against the militants safe havens which are used by the militants to carry out cross border insurgency attacks.

The conference will be attended by representatives from more than 29 countries to follow up with the discussions made during the Istanbul conference last November.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai says peace depends on regional cooperation to smash sanctuaries for militant networks waging violence in his country, and has voiced hope that Pakistan can help in this process.

This comes as militants recently carried out a number of coordinate attacks in capital Kabul and a number of other cities and provinces of Afghanistan, which was believed to be carried out by Haqqani Network.

US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta last week also expressed concerns regarding worsening violence by describing a June 6 double suicide attack in the southern city of Kandahar as “much more organised than we’ve seen before”.

However Islamabad denies any support for Haqqani activities, but the group’s leaders are widely believed to have strongholds in North Waziristan. (AOP)
