The divorce rate rises 20% in Herat

Herat, (AVA)- Over the past year, the divorce rate in Afghanistan has risen due to increasing of violence agianst women and lack of knowing women rights.

Asadi Zeinab, the head of complain commission of the women affairs, said unless constructive measures is taken, the phenomenon will have a negative consequences on the Afghan families.

Asadi believes increasing the number of divorces in the society is resulted from increasing of violence against women and lack of Afghan families' knowledge of women rights.

She added the women affairs office head plans to introduce the Afghan families with their rights.

Criticizing the civil institutions performances, some Herat residents believe ignoring the women affairs is the main cause of increasing divorce numbers.

Abbas, a Herat resident, said the civil institutions relevant to women affairs have not performed their duties.

According to the women affairs office head officials, 70% of Afghan women suffer from the problems in their families.
