Bilateral Relations between Afghanistan and Oman; A New Chapter of Cooperation
In international politics, relations between states based on mutual respect and common interests constitute an important basis for the foreign policy of any country. Since assuming power, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has strived to establish balanced, active and cooperative relations with countries in the region and the world. In this regard, the visit of the Afghan Foreign Minister, Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi, to Oman is of particular importance, as it not only provides new grounds for the development of political, economic and social relations between the two countries, but is also an important step towards consolidating Afghanistan’s international position.
The Afghan Foreign Minister, Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi, met in Muscat with the Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaid. This meeting, which is a sign of the continuation of political interactions, marks a new stage in bilateral relations between the two countries. Undoubtedly, such diplomatic interactions will not only prevent Afghanistan’s international isolation, but also contribute to creating an atmosphere of trust and expanding political cooperation.
At this meeting, the parties discussed and exchanged views in detail on strengthening bilateral political, economic and social relations. The Afghan Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of establishing balanced relations with countries in the region and the world, and considered a peaceful policy based on mutual respect as the basic principle of Afghanistan’s foreign policy. On the other hand, the Omani Foreign Minister emphasized that his country has always supported the stability, prosperity and development of Afghanistan and wants to expand its relations with this country.
In addition to diplomatic relations, economic cooperation forms an essential part of any country’s foreign policy. After decades of war, Afghanistan is now trying to rebuild its economy, attract investors and expand its trade opportunities. The Afghan Foreign Minister called on Oman to pay special attention to facilitating bilateral trade, Afghan exports, providing investment opportunities for Omani investors, and facilitating visa issuance.
Oman, which is considered one of the important economic centers in the Gulf region, can be an important trading partner for Afghanistan. Developing trade relations between the two countries will enable Afghan traders to export their products to global markets through Oman. In addition, expanding economic cooperation will create more joint opportunities for both countries, especially in the fields of food security, trade, and investment.
Through this visit, the Afghan Foreign Minister sent a clear message to the world that the Islamic Emirate wants relations based on mutual respect and cooperation with the international community. In this regard, the Omani Foreign Minister also expressed his support for Afghanistan’s accession to the international community, which indicates the gradual acceptance of Afghanistan’s new role in the international arena.
In international politics, countries that respect the principles of national sovereignty of other countries, establish good relations with neighbors and countries in the region, and adhere to the principles of mutual interaction enjoy greater status and respect. Expanding political and economic cooperation between Afghanistan and Oman will not only be beneficial for both countries, but is also an important step towards enhancing Afghanistan’s international credibility.
Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit is an important step for Afghanistan from a political, economic, and diplomatic perspective. This visit showed that Afghanistan is not isolated, but is trying to expand its interaction with the world through a balanced foreign policy.
The Sultanate of Oman, which has good relations with countries in the region and the world due to its moderate policy, can play a valuable role in expanding diplomatic, economic, and trade cooperation with Afghanistan. The result of this visit was that both countries committed to working to expand bilateral cooperation to further strengthen relations based on common interests.
