Agreement or confrontation? Afghanistan in the midst of tensions between Iran and the United States
Ali Reza Danesh/ In the context of the news of the start of direct talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, a fragile hope has emerged for a reduction in tensions in the region. However, at the same time, given the history of chronic tensions between the two countries and the deployment of military forces in the region, concerns about the possibility of a military conflict remain serious. In the event of a war, its negative consequences on the world, the region, and especially Afghanistan, will undoubtedly be profound and widespread.
1. Negative consequences of a war between the United States and the Islamic Republic on the global situation
A. Political consequences

The United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran are both influential powers in the field of international politics. A war between these two countries could push the world towards a dangerous bipolarity and even lead to the possibility of a third world war. Countries that oppose US policies are likely to side with the Islamic Republic, and countries that are at odds with the Islamic Republic will tend to support the US. This alignment could lead to a deep geopolitical divide and weaken the global security structure.
B. Economic consequences
In a world based on economics, trade, and the exchange of resources, a conflict between the US and Iran will have direct effects on the structure of the global economy. Both countries are either producers and exporters, or have significant influence on global export and import routes. Disruptions in the security of the Middle East region, especially in the field of oil exports, could cause an energy supply crisis for Europe and other industrialized countries. This will lead to a sharp increase in prices, disruption of supply chains, and economic recession in different parts of the world.

2. Negative consequences of war on the Middle East
A. Political consequences

As a sensitive and critical region, the Middle East has always been involved in strategic competitions between world powers. In the event of a war between the United States and the Islamic Republic, the influence of the United States in many countries in the region will be weakened. Since many governments in the region are dependent on American political and military support, the outbreak of war may lead to the collapse of dependent governments and anti-American popular uprisings. This scenario could initiate a widespread geopolitical realignment in the region, which may result in the withdrawal of American forces, increased Iranian influence, and the collapse of the Zionist regime.
B. Economic consequences
Most of the world's oil and gas exports come from the Middle East. Industrialized countries, especially the United States and Europe, import the bulk of their energy needs from this region. A military conflict in the Middle East, especially between two major powers, could halt or severely disrupt this trade. The cessation of energy exports to the West would cause a severe economic shock that would extend beyond the region and lead to stagnation and social unrest in many countries.

3. Negative consequences of the war on Afghanistan
A. Unemployment Increase

The Islamic Republic of Iran has been a haven for millions of refugees for years as the second home of the Afghan people during the war and internal crisis. In the event of a war, living conditions for refugees in Iran will become more difficult and many of them will be forced to return. This massive return, without the economic capacity to absorb this workforce, will increase unemployment in Afghanistan to an unprecedented level and will exacerbate social and economic challenges.
B. Disruption in Economic Relations
Afghanistan is highly dependent on imports of goods from Iran. Most consumer goods, energy, construction materials, and even food are imported through the Iranian borders. On the other hand, thousands of Afghan workers are also working in Iran, and their income plays an important role in the household economy. The outbreak of war and the interruption of these interactions will deal a severe shock to the Afghan economy, increase inflation, and severely weaken the livelihoods of the people.
