The Complex Game of America and Israel with the Islamic Republic of Iran and Its Effects on Afghanistan and the Region
Rahmatullah Faizan/ In recent years, the Middle East has witnessed increasing tensions between regional and trans-regional powers. One of the most important axes of this tension is the direct and indirect clashes between the Zionist regime and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which has entered a new and very dangerous stage with the full support of the United States. The recent Israeli military attacks on Iranian scientific, military and nuclear facilities on June 13, 2025, which led to the martyrdom of a group of commanders, scientists and civilians, sounded an alarm for the entire region. In the meantime, Afghanistan, as a country that has deep cultural, religious, economic and historical relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, has been and continues to be severely affected.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, as one of Afghanistan's main trading partners, has an annual economic exchange of more than three billion dollars with this country. In addition, in 1402, five important cooperation agreements were signed between the two countries in the fields of international transit, mining, air transit, free zone cooperation, and a joint economic commission, which indicate the depth of economic interdependence. In such circumstances, the expansion of the imposed war against Iran will not only target the foundations of the country's economy, but will also have serious and direct consequences for Afghanistan.

Repeated attacks on Iranian oil and nuclear facilities could lead to a decrease in energy production and exports from the country, which will naturally increase global oil prices and disrupt regional energy markets. Afghanistan, which supplies a large part of its fuel, construction materials, and even food needs from Iran, will face a sharp increase in prices, a decrease in imports, and inflationary pressure. This is very dangerous for a country that has a fragile economy due to sanctions, cutoffs from international banking, and internal challenges.

The war between Iran and Israel could also pose a problem for Afghanistan’s electricity supply, some of which is imported from Iran. The energy shortage will not only negatively affect the daily lives of the people, but also the country’s economic and industrial activities. In addition, disruptions in transit routes and increased transportation costs are other consequences of this crisis, which will put additional pressure on the Afghan people.

On the other hand, the Islamic Republic of Iran has the right to legitimate self-defense within the framework of international principles, and its missile responses to the Zionist regime’s aggression can be justified within this framework. However, the continuation of this conflict paves the way for the expansion of the crisis, regional instability, and even the emergence of unwanted conflicts in neighboring countries. For Afghanistan, which is seeking stability and reconstruction, the spread of war in the region is a vital threat.

In such circumstances, the need for dialogue, rationality, and a return to political solutions is felt more than ever. Regional countries, international organizations, and Islamic institutions must play a more active role in ending the war and preventing its spread. Experience has shown that no solution other than negotiation, respect for the sovereignty of countries, and avoidance of foreign intervention will lead to peace and stability in the region. The Islamic Republic of Iran, despite all pressures, has always emphasized the principle of regional dialogue and cooperation, and this opportunity must be properly managed to end the crisis. Regional peace and stability are only possible through understanding and interaction, not through aggression and imposition.
