Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Russian media have reported that a tripartite agreement to establish a transit corridor between Russia (Republic of Tatarstan), Turkmenistan and Afghanistan is set to be signed in May on the sidelines of the Kazan Forum. Rustam Khabibulin, head of the Russian Trade Center in Afghanistan, announced this news.
This new route has been proposed as an alternative to the “North-South” corridor, which has faced difficulties in using due to military conflicts in Iran.
Economic expert: Give the agreement a practical aspect, not just on paper
According to Tolo News, economic expert Abdul Shakoor Hadewal said in this regard: “We ask Russia to give this agreement a practical aspect and not just on paper, because Afghanistan is an import country and the war in Iran has greatly affected it. Similarly, as has been said, if it is implemented, it can become a good alternative to the North-South corridor.”
According to the report, Nuruddin Azizi, the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Islamic Emirate, was introduced as the initiator of this corridor and the first shipments will be sent from Tatarstan.
Oleg Korobchenko, the Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan, is directly supervising this project.
Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan: This route will turn the country into a key point of regional trade
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan believes that this route can turn Afghanistan into a key point of regional trade. Abdul Latif Nazari, the Deputy Minister of Economy, said in this regard: “The economic corridor is to be formed between Afghanistan, Russia and Turkmenistan. It is effective in the economic growth and development of the country, it will improve Afghanistan’s transit position and in fact the country will become a connecting link of the region.”
Sayed Massoud, another economic expert, says: “If Afghanistan can manage this issue properly, with the help of Russia and Turkmenistan, which Pakistan undoubtedly cannot say anything against, in addition to gaining great benefits, Afghanistan’s geostrategic position, which Pakistan or even Iran are trying hard to destroy, will be re-established.” Afghanistan has become an important market for Tatarstan’s halal products in recent years, importing $51.7 million worth of halal products from Tatarstan in 2025, a significant increase over the previous year.
