Iran: We crushed US attacks on tankers with a “heavy slap” / Araghchi: Our missile reserves are 120%
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran issued a strong statement, strongly condemning the attacks by the US military on two Iranian tankers near the Strait of Hormuz this morning (May 8) and emphasized that these attacks were met with a “heavy slap” by the Iranian armed forces and thwarted. At the same time, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, warned in a fiery response: “Iranians never bow to pressure, but it is diplomacy that always falls victim” and announced that Iran’s missile reserves are not 75% but 120% of the level in March. According to the latest news, an Iranian oil tanker was seized by the Iranian army in the Sea of Oman, and three Iranian tankers also crossed the alleged US blockade line.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran issued an official statement today, Friday, strongly condemning the US military's actions against two Iranian oil tankers near the Jask port and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the attack on several points in the coastal areas overlooking this strategic waterway.
The attacks, which took place in the late hours of Thursday night and early Friday morning, were called "a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement dated April 10, 2021" in the Iranian Foreign Ministry's statement.
Citing international law, the statement emphasizes that the US actions are "a flagrant violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4, of the United Nations Charter and an example of an act of aggression according to the UN General Assembly's Resolution on the Definition of Aggression (Resolution No. 3314)." It is recalled that Iran and the United States had reached an agreement on a ceasefire on the morning of Wednesday, April 9.

“Heavy Slap” and the Failure of the Aggressors
In part of this statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated in a decisive tone: “These attacks were met with a powerful response and a “heavy slap” from the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the aggressors failed to achieve their illegitimate goals.”

The statement further described the behavior of American officials as a sign of “the intensification of the desperation and confusion of the American ruling body” and added: “The continuation of aggressive actions, along with contradictory behaviors, ridiculous rhetoric, and scandalous projections, is indicative of their extreme inability to recognize the problem and find a reasonable solution to get out of the self-made quagmire.”

Warning to the Security Council and Criticism of the US Military Presence
In another part of this statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry, by drawing the attention of the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General to their responsibilities towards international peace and security, has warned of the “dangerous consequences of the UN’s indifference and appeasement towards US rebellion and lawlessness.”
Tehran has also clarified, with an analytical look at the roots of insecurity in the region: “Now more than ever, the fact has become clear that linking regional security to the interventionist presence of the US is wrong; the US military presence in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman has not only not contributed to stability, but has itself become a factor of insecurity with widespread regional and global consequences.”
Finally, Iran, emphasizing its commitment to the good-neighborly policy, has once again called on the governments of the region to create an “endogenous security mechanism, based on collective trust and free from destructive interference by foreign actors.”
Araqchi: Diplomacy is being sacrificed; Our missile stockpile is 120 percent
At the same time as the statement was released, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi responded to the new US attacks in a fiery tweet on the X network. He questioned Washington’s motives, writing: “Whenever a diplomatic solution is on the table, the United States resorts to a senseless military adventure. Is this just a blind tactic to apply pressure? Or is it a deception by a saboteur who wants to drag the US president into a new quagmire once again?”
Araghchi then responded in firm language to both the threats and the US intelligence estimates: “The Iranians never bow to pressure, but it is diplomacy that always falls victim.”
He went on to point out the claims made about Iran’s missile capabilities: “The CIA is wrong. Our missile stockpile and launcher capacity are not at 75 percent of what they were on March 29; The correct figure is 120 percent.”
In conclusion, the Iranian Foreign Minister described his country’s readiness to defend the nation as follows: “And our readiness to defend our people: 1,000 percent.”

Seizure of the offending tanker in the Sea of Oman
In a simultaneous development, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s army announced the implementation of a special naval operation this Friday afternoon.
According to an official announcement, the Iranian Navy, citing a resolution of the country’s Supreme National Security Council and a court ruling, seized the offending tanker “OCEAN KOI” in the Sea of Oman, which was carrying Iranian oil cargo and was abusing the regional conditions to disrupt Iranian oil exports.
In this operation, Iranian Navy rangers and marines guided the tanker to the southern coast of the country and handed it over to the judicial authorities for legal proceedings.
The Iranian army has emphasized that it “will defend the interests and assets of the Iranian nation with all its might and will not tolerate any violator or aggressor.”

Breaking the siege; Three supertankers pass US blockade
Meanwhile, satellite data shows significant movements of the Iranian tanker fleet.
According to a report by the marine cargo tracking company TankerTrackers, over the past two days, three tankers belonging to the National Iranian Tanker Company have succeeded in breaking through the US blockade and enter Iranian territorial waters. These empty tankers have a combined capacity of 5 million barrels of Iranian crude oil.
The report comes after Tanker Trackers, which previously announced, at the same time as Donald Trump’s claim that “Iran’s storage capacity is full and the pipelines are exploding from within,” said Iran had a month and a half of storage capacity, provided that another empty tanker does not breach the blockade. Since then, several supertankers have broken through the blockade and entered Kharg Island.
According to the company, the passage of two of the last three tankers has been visually confirmed in satellite images, but the third tanker, which was seen last night on the Online Positioning System (AIS) near the coast of Oman’s Shinas, about 254 nautical miles (470 kilometers) west of the blockade line, has not yet received visual confirmation.
These developments come two days after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed to have targeted an Iranian tanker in international waters and disabled its rudder, preventing it from heading towards Iran; a claim that has now been seriously questioned by satellite images of the tankers successfully crossing the blockade line.
