Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: According to an official announcement by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran, at 4:50 am today, a US air base in the region, which was the origin of launching aerial projectiles at a point on the outskirts of Bandar Abbas airport, was targeted for a retaliatory attack. The announcement states: "This response is a serious warning so that the enemy knows that aggression will not go unanswered, and if it is repeated, our response will be more decisive. The responsibility for the consequences lies with the aggressor."
Details of the events of last night and this morning
A military source provided new details of the context of this tension in an interview with Tasnim News Agency. According to the source, during the events of last night, four vessels attempted to illegally pass through the Strait of Hormuz, but were forced to stop and return after the Iranian Navy fired warning shots.
The military source had previously explained that an American tanker attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz by turning off its radar system, but was forced to stop and return after the IRGC Navy took decisive action and fired at it. In return, the US military fired at a wasteland around Bandar Abbas. According to him, this firing did not cause any casualties or property damage, and the explosions heard were related to this action.
Official narrative of the IRGC Navy
The IRGC Navy Public Relations Department confirmed these events and announced that the intelligent control of the Strait of Hormuz is underway with full authority and that over the past 24 hours, 26 commercial ships and tankers have passed through the safe corridor of the Strait of Hormuz after obtaining permission and with the coordination of this force. The organization emphasized that obtaining permission and coordination for traffic in the Strait of Hormuz is a definite requirement and that passing through other routes is considered a violation and will be dealt with.
The statement added, referring to last night’s incident: “Several ships attempted to enter the Persian Gulf without authorization by tampering with and turning off their navigation systems. After several radio warnings, the IRGC Navy stopped two of them in place and the rest were forced to return.”
The statement also stated that the US military, in violation of the ceasefire, fired several missiles at empty areas around Bandar Abbas airport, causing no damage, and in response, the US base that initiated the aggression was attacked in retaliation.
The IRGC warned that if the US military repeats this action, it will face a harsh response, stressing: “The control and management of the Strait of Hormuz will be carried out only by the IRGC Navy, and any disruption in this strait will be met with our decisive response.”
Iranian Foreign Ministry Response
Meanwhile, Esmail Baghai, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, strongly condemned the US military aggression against areas in Bandar Abbas.
Referring to the early hours of today (Thursday, June 27), he considered this action an aggression against Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty, and called it a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter. Baghai emphasized that the UN Security Council has a duty to fulfill its legal responsibility to hold the US aggressors accountable.
Referring to the continuous violation of the ceasefire of March 9 by the United States, especially the attack on commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf and open waters, as well as the air attack on the southern regions of Iran in recent days, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized the Islamic Republic of Iran’s determination to take all necessary measures to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
Baqaei also condemned the threatening rhetoric of American officials against Iran and some countries in the region and expressed solidarity with the friendly and brotherly country of Oman, noting: “The threat to destroy a United Nations member state that has always played a constructive, effective, and responsible role in regional peace and security and has served as a mediator in the service of regional peace and stability for many years is not only a violation of the fundamental principle of prohibiting the threat of the use of force, but also another dangerous sign of the normalization of lawlessness and bullying in international relations.”
