Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: At the "Termez Dialogue" meeting, which was held in Tashkent with the presence of high-ranking officials from Central and South Asian countries, Afghanistan's role as a bridge between Central Asia and South Asia was the focus of attention.
The participants of the meeting emphasized the importance of Afghanistan's effective integration into the region's transit and trade networks, considering it one of the key factors for strengthening economic growth, developing regional cooperation and ensuring sustainable stability.
Bahromzhan Aliyev, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, stated at the meeting that the shortest and most economical route for Central Asian countries to access open water ports passes through Afghan territory. According to him, a stable and economically growing Afghanistan can play a decisive role in expanding trade, developing transit and strengthening regional security.
The meeting also reported that economic cooperation between Afghanistan and Central Asian countries has been growing in recent years. According to reports, since the fall of 2025, agreements worth nearly five billion dollars have been signed between the economic and trade institutions of the two sides, which indicates the increasing interest of the countries of the region in developing economic cooperation with Afghanistan.
However, the participants of the meeting emphasized that international financial restrictions, banking problems and the freezing of some of Afghanistan's assets remain important challenges in the path of expanding trade, investment and implementing regional projects.
Meanwhile, Afghan Minister of Industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi stressed Kabul’s readiness to increase trade volume, develop transit infrastructure, and strengthen economic cooperation with neighboring countries, calling for expanding regional economic interactions.
The Termez Dialogue, established under a 2022 United Nations resolution, aims to strengthen connectivity between Central and South Asia, develop transportation networks, facilitate trade, and expand regional economic cooperation—goals that many experts see as difficult to achieve without an active role for Afghanistan.
