Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Mashhad: According to IRNA, Haji Mohammad Ibrahim, Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Economy of the Islamic Emirate, entered the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran through the Milk border on Sunday, June 10, at the head of a delegation and visited the construction site of the Milk Second Bridge on the Helmand River, together with Attaullah Akbari, Deputy Coordinator of Development Affairs of the Sistan and Baluchestan Governorate. During this visit, the process of preparing the technical infrastructure and the conditions for the project's implementation were reviewed.
On the sidelines of this visit, the Deputy Coordinator of Civil Affairs of the Sistan and Baluchestan Province of Iran, referring to the history of this project, stated: The construction of the second Milk Bridge has been one of the important demands for the development of border infrastructure and facilitating traffic between Iran and Afghanistan for the past years.
Attaullah Akbari added: During the negotiations and joint visits, the Iranian and Afghan sides emphasized the need to implement this project, and the necessary agreement was reached to begin its implementation stages.
He announced the formation of a specialized committee to review the technical aspects of the project and said: Based on the agreement, it was decided that this committee would review the technical specifications and exact location of the bridge within seven days and announce the final result.
Akbari stated that the final stages of the construction of the second Milk Bridge are being completed, and predicted that the implementation of the project would begin in the near future.
30% progress and 18-month timeline for completion
The deputy governor of Sistan and Baluchestan, referring to the technical details of the project, noted: So far, 120 concrete beams have been prepared for the implementation of this bridge, which forms part of the initial infrastructure of the project and includes about 30% of the physical progress of the plan. He added: Technical estimates show that if the implementation operations begin, the completion of this project will require about 16 to 18 months.
The strategic role of the second Milk Bridge in regional trade
The second Milk Bridge will be built on the Helmand River and adjacent to the Milk border crossing in northern Sistan and Baluchestan, Iran; a crossing that is considered one of the most important communication and trade routes between Iran and Afghanistan.
