Pressure does not work / "Economic Exclusion Operation" is a "Crime against Humanity"

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: While tensions between Tehran and Washington over the new sanctions and statements by American officials have intensified, the Iranian diplomatic apparatus is simultaneously continuing the path of consultations with regional mediators and on the legal front, it is also issuing an official statement condemning the US policy of maximum pressure.

Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, announced on his personal page on the X social network about “constructive and innovative” talks in Tehran after meeting with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar.
Stating that “returning diplomacy to its path is not impossible,” Araghchi stated that the condition for its realization is the understanding of a simple reality by the United States, writing: “Pressure will not work. The United States must build trust, speak respectfully, acknowledge our rights, and adhere to its obligations.”

At the same time, Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy Minister for Legal and International Affairs of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to US President Donald Trump’s recent statements about the Strait of Hormuz, harshly described these claims on the X social network as a sign of a disorder in the perception of reality, writing: “Psychologists recommend that such patients should be monitored and treated 24 hours a day.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran also issued an official statement, announcing that the US government had unveiled a new wave of “economic terrorism” against Iran on Monday (September 2, 2021) titled “Economic Exclusion Operation.”

The statement stated: “The US’s misuse of the dollar as a tool to intimidate other countries to force them to follow its interventionist and international law-violating policies regarding Iran is a violation of national sovereignty and the right of all member states of the United Nations to determine their own destiny.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized: “The economic exclusion operation” in itself proves the criminal intent of its planners and implementers to inflict pain and suffering on the Iranian people and deprive Iranian citizens of their fundamental human rights, and is therefore considered an international crime and a crime against humanity.

The statement also called the US sanctions a gross violation of the UN Charter, a violation of the principle of “non-interference in the internal affairs of states,” and a continuous violation of the October 3, 2018 ruling of the International Court of Justice.

Warning about international appeasement and the duty of states

In this statement, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that the indifference and appeasement of the UN system and its member states towards the gross violations of international law by the US and the Zionist regime has created a dangerous pattern of lawlessness.
The statement, emphasizing that all countries are obliged to refrain from implementing such sanctions, considered participation in the implementation of US unilateral sanctions against Iran as complicity in destroying the principle of “sovereign equality” of countries.
The statement concludes: “While condemning US economic terrorism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes the determination of the Iranian nation to use all capacities to defend the homeland against military-economic aggression and a combined US-Zionist war.”
