A report from the scientific section of the 40th Islamic Unity Conference in Qom/ Scholars’ emphasis on theorizing for unity and rebuilding the civilizational identity of the nation
The scientific section of the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference was held in the city of Qom today, Saturday, with the presence of scholars, seminary and university professors, students, and researchers. In this session, Islamic scholars focused on civilization-building ideas and governance in the shadow of Islamic unity in the intellectual system of Imam Martyr Khamenei (Glory be to God, the Most Merciful), and emphasized the need to move beyond sloganeering and superficial views on the proximity of religions. The speakers of this conference considered Islamic unity to require coherent theorizing, activating the jurisprudential, moral, and social capacities of the nation, maintaining scientific dialogue between religions, and benefiting from the deep commonalities of identity and civilization among Muslims, and emphasized that recent developments in the region have provided a historic opportunity for the Islamic world to move toward greater convergence and rebuilding the identity of a unified nation.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-Qom: The scientific section of the 40th International Conference on Islamic Unity was held today, Saturday in the presence of scholars, seminary and university professors, students and researchers at the Qom Center for Proximal Studies. The meeting was held with the theme of “Investigating Civilization-Building Thoughts and Governance in the Shadow of Islamic Unity” and focused on analyzing “rebuilding the identity of the nation” and “creating civilizational power” in the intellectual system of the martyr Imam, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei (may God be pleased with him).
The speakers of this event, by explaining the intellectual, moral, political and civilizational dimensions of the martyr Imam’s thought, emphasized the necessity of moving beyond superficial views of Islamic unity, producing theories in the field of proximalism, activating the jurisprudential and social capacities of the nation, and using the current conditions of the Islamic world to shape civilizational convergence.
At this ceremony, Hojatoleslam Walmuslimin Hamid Shahriari, Secretary General of the World Forum for the Proximity of Islamic Schools, Ayatollah Alireza Aarafi, Director of Iranian Seminaries, Ayatollah Ahmad Molabghi, Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the World Forum for Islamic Jurisprudence in Jeddah, and Hojatoleslam Walmuslimin Rashedinia, Director of the Institute for Proximity Studies, delivered speeches.

Rashedinia: Submitting 375 articles in less than a month is a sign of widespread acceptance of the unity discourse
At the beginning of the opening ceremony of the scientific section of the 40th International Conference on Islamic Unity, Hojatoleslam Walmuslimin Rashedinia, Director of the Institute for Proximity Studies, presented a report on the process of holding, receiving, and judging the articles of this conference.
Referring to the independent holding of the scientific section of the conference in Qom, he stated: This year, for the first time, the scientific section of the International Conference on Islamic Unity will be held independently in the city of Qom; The city where the first call for closeness was raised by Grand Ayatollah Boroujerdi and is still considered one of the important centers of thought, ijtihad, Islamic dialogue, and theory-building in the Islamic world.
Referring to the special circumstances of holding this conference, Rashedinia stated: The 40th International Conference on Islamic Unity is being held in a situation where the Islamic world is still grieving the loss of the martyred leader of the revolution; a figure who, more than many great figures and personalities in the Islamic world, emphasized the necessity of unity of the Islamic nation.
According to him, the martyred Imam did not limit himself to simply proposing a slogan or giving advice on the issue of Islamic unity, but rather presented an effective and lasting model in the field of theory-building, in the field of social discourse-building, in behavior and interaction with followers of Islamic sects, and in the field of institution-building.
The head of the Institute for Approximate Studies continued: Today, the Islamic world still uses the speech, behavior, and intellectual and practical foundations of the martyred Imam as a compass, and his thought on the issue of a unified nation, the rapprochement of religions, and resistance to domination still has strategic potential.
Referring to the limited time to prepare for the conference, he said: From the time the conference was announced until today, we had a very short time. Security centers had not concluded for some time that this year's conference could be held in person, but after the final approval, about a month of time remained for planning and preparation.
Rashedinia added: The first step for the scientific accreditation of the conference was to receive approval from the Islamic World Citation Center (ISC) so that the conference articles would be indexed in dedicated databases and its scientific achievements would be made available to researchers and scientific centers.
He reported on the remarkable reception of domestic and foreign researchers and stated: Despite the limited time, 375 articles on the topic of unity in the intellectual system of the martyr Imam, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, were sent to the conference secretariat; a statistic that is significant compared to some previous periods and indicates the high capacity of this subject for research and theory-building.
The head of the Institute for Approximate Studies noted: In 2006, 125 articles were sent to the secretariat, in the third year of the conference, 220 articles, and last year, 42 articles; but this year, 375 articles reached the secretariat in less than a month.
Stating that 322 articles were sent from 29 provinces of Iran, he said: The most works received were from Tehran, Qom, Isfahan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Khorasan Razavi, and Kurdistan. In addition, 53 articles from 12 countries of the world, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Pakistan, reached the conference secretariat.
Rashedinia also stated about the language of the articles: 336 articles were written in Persian, 29 articles in Arabic, and 10 articles in English. In terms of the religious composition of the authors, 262 articles were submitted by Shiite researchers and 113 articles by Sunni researchers, which constitute 67 and 32 percent of the total works, respectively. He added: In total, 484 first, second, and third authors are participating in this conference, of which 311 are men and 173 are women. Also, 49 percent of the authors Degan has a PhD, 37% have a Master's degree, and 14% have other educational qualifications.
The head of the Institute for Approximate Studies concluded: All received articles have been submitted to two referees for scientific evaluation, and nearly 800 reviews have been conducted so far. Although the review process has not yet reached a final result due to time constraints, in the first stage, 144 articles out of a total of 375 articles were approved and 211 articles were rejected; therefore, about 41% of the works were scientifically approved in the first stage of evaluation.
