Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to the Washington DC Fire and Emergency Services, a passenger plane has crashed into the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport on the outskirts of Washington, DC.

According to the American network "CNN", Reagan National Airport announced on social media: "All incoming and outgoing flights at DCA Airport have been suspended. Emergency services are dealing with an air accident on the airport runway. The terminal remains open."

Reports indicate that an American Airlines plane crashed into a helicopter while approaching Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., and search and rescue boats have been dispatched to the area.

CNN reported that there were confirmed casualties in the incident, and that rescuers have not yet pulled any survivors from the water and that rescue operations are ongoing.

CNN reported, citing an American source, that the plane was broken into pieces and scattered in the water, and that the helicopter also crashed into the water nearby.

According to CNN, the US military Black Hawk helicopter that collided with a passenger plane on Wednesday was conducting a training flight.

According to the latest US media reports, divers have accessed the wreckage of the plane in the Potomac River and so far the bodies of 19 passengers have been found, and according to divers, many passengers are still trapped in their seats underwater. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

According to White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt, Trump described the incident as a “sad tragedy” and said in a statement, “I am fully aware of the heartbreaking incident that occurred at Reagan National Airport. May God rest the souls of the victims. I thank the rescue teams for the extraordinary work they are doing. I am monitoring the situation and will provide more details soon.”

The US Secretary of Defense also reacted to the incident in a statement, saying, “Search and rescue efforts are continuing and an investigation into the incident of the collision of two planes in Washington has begun.”

CNN reported that a law enforcement source said the search and rescue operation for survivors of the plane crash on Wednesday was becoming increasingly desperate.

The source described the images taken by rescue workers as “shocking” and said it was difficult to make out what was seen in the images. The plane was broken into several pieces, he said.

Two security sources and a source familiar with the matter confirmed that no survivors had been found so far.

Trump: Plane crash was avoidable
In new comments on the military helicopter crash, the US president said that the military helicopter crew should have changed its course.

“Why didn’t the helicopter climb, land or change course? Why didn’t it direct the helicopter control tower? The plane crash was avoidable because the plane was flying on a perfectly good course and the helicopter was heading towards it for a long time,” he said.

American Airlines Flight 5342 took off from Wichita, Kansas, with 60 passengers and four crew members on board. Three US military personnel were also aboard a Hawk helicopter on a training flight.
