Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Simultaneously with the arrival of the holy month of Muharram and the beginning of the days of mourning for the martyr Imam Hussein (AS), Muslims from different countries of the world held "Hussain's Day" in New York on Sunday (June 29) in one of the most magnificent religious processions in the United States of America.
According to international media reports, this ceremony, which is an initiative of Islamic groups living in the United States and is held with the broad participation of immigrants and Muslims, is held every year on the first Sunday of Muharram on the streets of central Manhattan.
Although "Hussein Day" has not yet been registered as an official religious day in the United States calendar, it is increasingly welcomed by American Muslim and even non-Muslim citizens every year.
At this year's ceremony, Muslims from Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh and some Arab communities carried the flags of Ya Hussein (AS) and chanted slogans of peace, freedom and justice on the streets of New York.
In addition to its religious color, this program also has a cultural and human face and tries to introduce the message of Karbala and the injustice of Imam Hussein (AS) as a global symbol of resistance against oppression to the world's public opinion.
The march began in front of Times Square in New York and ended at the Islamic Center of New York. Some American participants expressed their solidarity with the message of Ashura by holding posters with anti-oppression and discrimination themes.
News networks such as NBC and CBS also covered part of the march.
According to experts, the strong presence of Muslims of different nationalities in the heart of New York with the slogan "O Hussein" is not only a crystallization of Islamic identity in the West, but also a bridge between religious communities and citizens of other countries in order to introduce the true face of Islam, which is peace, justice and resistance to oppression.
