Macron announces seizure of Russian tanker in Atlantic

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The French President praised the seizure of the Russian tanker, saying that "our determination is unwavering."

 

Macron, while posting a video of the seizure of the tanker Tagore on X (formerly Twitter), attributed this anti-Russian action to anti-Russian sanctions.

 

He wrote: "Yesterday morning, the French Navy seized a new tanker under international sanctions that was sailing from Russia: Tagore. Our determination is firm and unwavering."

 

The French President continued: "This operation was carried out in the Atlantic Ocean, in international waters, with the support of several partners, including Britain, in strict compliance with the law of the sea."

 

The seizure of the Russian tanker by France and its European allies comes as tensions between the two sides over the war in Ukraine continue to mount.

 

Macron justified the move by saying: “It is unacceptable for ships to circumvent international sanctions, violate the law of the sea and finance the war that Russia has been waging against Ukraine for more than four years. These ships, which refuse to respect the most basic rules of maritime navigation, are a threat to the environment and to the security of all.”
