Moscow Oil Refinery Targeted Again by Ukrainian Drones

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to Ukrainian media reports, the Russian capital woke up this morning (Thursday) to a massive drone attack, while explosions could be heard throughout the city and smoke filled the Moscow sky.

 

According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Telegram channels, dozens of drones targeted different areas of the Russian capital.

 

In today's attack, for the second time in the past three days, Ukrainian drones hit the Moscow oil refinery in the Kaputnya district, causing a large fire at the facility.

 

Moscow was hit by a “massive” drone attack early on Wednesday, the Russian capital’s mayor said, with air defenses shooting down 52 drones. “Several drones managed to reach [the Moscow oil refinery],” he said.

 

Emergency teams were working at the sites of the attacks, Sobyanin said. He also reported “minor damage” to a building in the Sadovy shopping mall in the southeast of the city. No casualties were reported.

 

Temporary flight restrictions were also imposed at Moscow’s Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky airports amid the attack.

 

Photos and videos posted by residents on social media showed fires and explosions in several locations across Moscow, including at the refinery in the Kaputnaya district.

 

Footage posted online showed the fire at the oil refinery, the upper floors of a high-rise building in flames and thick smoke in Moscow.

 

Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported damage to residential buildings on the outskirts of the capital. Vorobyov said a multi-story apartment building in the Zhukovsky district was damaged and its residents were evacuated.

 

In the Lyubertsy district, the Moscow governor said debris from the drone damaged a sports center, a shopping center and an industrial area. No casualties were reported, but the extent of the damage is still being assessed.

 

Vorobyov also reported damage and fires in cottages in the Moscow region towns of Chekhov and Pavlovsky Posad.
