Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The Spanish Ministry of Interior confirmed the closure of the crossing and announced that this measure will continue until the end of the security forces' operation.
At the same time, the Spanish government announced an agreement with Morocco to strengthen joint coordination and accelerate the return of all people who have entered Ceuta illegally.
According to estimates by the Spanish Ministry of Interior, about 49,000 migrants have entered Ceuta from the Moroccan border in the past 24 hours, which is more than half of the city's population (about 83,000 people).
Local authorities have said at least 18 people have died trying to enter the area.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has called the situation an “attack” and a “violation of territorial integrity” and has traveled to Ceuta to assess the situation.
Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska has also traveled to the area to follow up on agreements with Morocco and monitor the return of migrants.
Many migrants have reportedly entered Ceuta by swimming or bypassing the border breakwaters, overwhelming local reception systems.
The Spanish government has deployed troops and significantly increased police and coastguard personnel to try to secure the area.
