Committee Assigned To Select Election Commissioner

 AVA-President Ashraf Ghani in a decree assigned the former selection committee to start working on selection of a member for the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Presidential Palace said in a statement. 
 
According to the statement, the president assigned the selection committee to resume its activities immediately after the issuance of the decree. 
 
The new decision made following the efforts to select someone from among the former applicants who were shortlisted, but no one was found eligible, read the statement. 
 
The new decree is issued based on the article 12 of Election Law, said the statement.
 
This comes after President Ashraf Ghani fired his own hand-picked Independent Election Commission Chairman Najibullah Ahmadzai on November 15.
