In this meeting, Amir Abdollahian, referring to Russia's position and its role as a permanent member of the Security Council, demanded that this country play a more active role in order to stop the war against Gaza.
 
Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, also criticized America's disruptions in the Security Council and Washington's obstruction of the ceasefire resolution. He called for a united position of the Arab countries regarding the Palestinian issue.
 
This is the third visit of Iran's foreign minister to New York this year. He traveled to New York for the first time to participate in the meeting of the leaders of the United Nations General Assembly with the President of Iran, and he traveled to America for the second time to participate in the emergency meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.
 
The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution with a positive vote of 153 of its members, which is an overwhelming majority of votes, which calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, as well as the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners.
 
Before arriving in New York following the assassination of five Iranian military advisors in Syria, Iran's foreign minister said in a letter to the UN Secretary General: The Israeli regime must bear the consequences of its terrorist and other terrorist acts against Iran's military advisors.

France, which is one of the five permanent members of the Security Council and holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council this month (January 2024), has invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and other countries to participate in this meeting.
