Government forces have recaptured Bilchiragh district in the northern Faryab province, forcing the Taliban militants to retreat from the restive area, said a statement of provincial government released here Tuesday.

The security forces launched a special operation from the ground and air in the early hours of Tuesday, forcing the militants to flee, the statement said, adding that security forces including police would remain there to ensure law and order for the locals.
However, the statement did not say about casualties of either side.
According to the statement, the security forces would continue to chase militants in the troubled Faryab province to ensure lasting peace there.
Taliban militants who had ruled the restive district for the past two years, are yet to make comment on the situation there.
