DRC to Assess Harmful Elements on Climate Change in Afghanistan
Patrick Bolte, a statement said that, the General Director of the National Environmental Protection Authority of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), met with the Climate Change Consultant of the Danish Red Crescent Society.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, In the meeting, the Climate Change Consultant of the Danish Red Crescent Society, Patrick Bolte said the East Asian countries including Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, and Afghanistan are the most vulnerable countries in terms of harmful elements of climate change, for this reason, the DRCS is about conduct an evaluation on the negative climate change elements in Afghanistan, according to the statement.
 
“Afghanistan despite low greenhouse gas emissions is among the top ten countries most vulnerable to climate change, and the probe will enable us to prepare a complete plan and fight the increase of negative impacts of climate change and increase the resilience of vulnerable communities in the country,” Bolte said.
 
Meanwhile, the General Director of the National Environmental Protection Authority of IEA, Hafiz Aziz Rahman, reminded saying that the decades of conflicts and the recent climate change crisis, in addition to huge human and financial losses have also put irreparable impacts on the environment, mainly in water and agriculture sectors, in the country, the statement added.
 
Climate change has caused the level of underground water unprecedentedly to drop and various infectious diseases to spread among the people in the country, the statement said.
 
“Addressing the challenges of climate change is beyond the ability of the IEA and needs the necessary cooperation of the international community,” the statement quoted Hafiz Aziz Rahman.
 
Meanwhile, Hafiz Aziz called on those international organizations to resume their environmental projects without pre-political conditions in the country and continue their financial and technical support with IEA, the statement further added.
