Unknown gunmen opened fire on vehicle of Zarifa Ghafari, the mayor of Maidan Sher in Maidan Wardak province, in Kabul city on Sunday afternoon, Kabul Police confirmed.

Afghan mayor Zarifa Ghafari has won the International Women of Courage from the US State Department.

The newly-appointed mayor of Maidan Shahr city, the provincial capital of Maidan Wardak province, has been barred from assuming office.
