Afghan forces foil deadly attack plot in Jalalabad city

local officials said Thursday that a suspect has been arrested in connection to a major terrorist attack plot from planned for the Jalalabad city.

The officials further added that the suspect identified as Asrarullah and a member of the Taliban group was arrested by the intelligence operatives as he was attempting to transport heavy weapons to the city for the attack.

Asrarullah is originally a resident of the central Logar province and was conducting insurgency on Taliban’s behalf in Jalalabad city, the officials said, adding that he was attempting to transport the weapons in a Toyota Corolla type vehicle when he was arrested.

He also confessed that he was attempting to transport the weapons to his comrades in the city for the attack, the officials added.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes as that a group of insurgents launched a coordinated attack on Save the Children office in the 3rd police district of Jalalabad city at around 9 am on Wednesday.

The officials are saying that the attack was carried out by a group of five insurgents with one of them initially detonating a vehicle packed with the explosives near the NGO office.

According to the local officials, the remaining four militants started clashes with the security forces that lasted for several hours before all of them were shot dead.

At least four people including two employees of the NGO along with one of its security guards and an Afghan security forces member were killed and twenty five others were wounded, the officials said. dead or wounded.
