Special assistant to the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Saeed Ohaddi confirmed that the country's humanitarian assistance has reached the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip amidst Israel's ongoing war and total blockade.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Monitoring: “So far, 10,000 tons of food, medicine and biological products, along with approximately 190 billion tomans in cash aid, have been sent to the Gaza Strip from the people of Iran to support the oppressed Palestinians,” Ohaddi told Al-Alam, as famine is rampant in the Palestinian territory.
The aid delivery comes at a critical time as Gaza continues to grapple with humanitarian crises exacerbated by the regime’s relentless bombardment as well as closure of the Rafah crossing, which links the besieged strip with Egypt.
Israel has been carrying out heavy bombardment across the Gaza Strip since early October 2023, killing at least 35,200 Palestinians and wounding almost 79,000 others, and levelling entire neighborhoods. Thousands more are missing and feared dead under the rubble.
The United Nations has reported nearly 90% of the population has been displaced from their homes, while 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
Tel Aviv has also imposed a crippling blockade on Gaza, cutting off food, electricity, fuel and water supplies. The move has plunged the blockaded territory into a humanitarian crisis.
The UN World Food Programme has declared a “full-blown famine” in the Northern part of the narrow enclave. Still, Israel’s siege on Gaza continues, with access to food, water and electricity severely limited. UN experts have repeatedly warned of a “risk of genocide” in the territory.
Despite the challenges posed by the Zionist regime’s full siege, Ohaddi emphasized that the aid was successfully transferred to the tiny enclave through meticulously planned routes with the assistance of friendly nations./Fars
