Yemen's Houthis stepped up attacks on ships crossing the Red Sea on Friday, including one that set fire to an oil tanker owned by the trading company Trafigura.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to Reuters, the Trafigura company said that a rocket hit the oil tanker Marlin Levanda while passing through the Red Sea. The spokesperson of Trafigura added that this tanker was carrying Russian oil.

The company said in a statement that firefighting equipment was deployed on the plane to contain and control the fire in a cargo tank on the right side of the ship.

"We remain in contact with the ship and are closely monitoring the situation," the statement continued.

Houthi attacks have mainly targeted container ships moving in the Red Sea. Many tankers have continued to use this route.

Earlier, the UK's Maritime Trade Operations Department and the UK's maritime security company, Embry, announced that they had received reports of an attack on ships in the Red Sea near Aden, Yemen, and a fire on the ship.

The spokesman of the Houthi army said: Naval forces carried out an operation targeting the "British" oil tanker Marlin Luanda in the Gulf of Aden, which caused a fire.

The US military announced in a statement that it shot down an anti-ship ballistic missile from the Houthi-controlled area in Yemen and there were no casualties or damage.

Iran-affiliated Houthi militias in Yemen have launched drones and rockets at ships since November 19 in response to Israel's attacks in Gaza. Some companies have suspended transit through the Red Sea, opting for longer and more expensive voyages.

American and British warplanes, ships and submarines have carried out dozens of retaliatory airstrikes across Yemen against the Houthi forces.
