Italian soldier killed following blast in western Afghanistan
A NATO service member was killed following insurgents attack in western Afghanistan.

NATO-led International Security Assistance Force following a statement on Monday announced, “One International Security Assistance Force service member died following an insurgent attack in western Afghanistan today. “

The statement did not disclose further information regarding the exact location of the incident and nationality of the deceased soldier.

International Security Assistance Force generally do not disclose identities of the NATO soldiers killed in Afghanistan saying, “It is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities.”

In the meantime Italian Defense Ministry following a statement announced, an Italian soldier has been killed and two others injured in a blast at a police training camp in the town of Adraskan in western Afghanistan.

The explosion took place on Monday in “an observation hut near a shooting range”, killing the 30-year-old soldier, Italian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The victim and the wounded soldiers belonged to the Police Speciality Training Team (PSTT).

Italy has 4,000 soldiers in Afghanistan as part of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force, but is mulling over full withdrawal from the volatile country by the end of 2014. (AOP)
