Twenty-two people, including seven Taliban militants, were killed in a suicide blast that ripped through a fateha service for a deceased in the Sayyad district of northern Sar-i-Pul province on Tuesday.
AVA- Provincial police chief Abdul Qayyum Baqizoy told media the attack took place on the gathering in Ajiram village at around 10:30am.
He said the dead included 15 civilians and seven Taliban militants.
Baqizoy did not say for whom the fateha was offered, but said a number of Taliban commanders were also present. He said many people had been injured in the blast, but exact figures were not immediately known.
The injured were evacuated to hospitals by local residents, the police chief said.
But a government source, who declined to be named, put the toll at 27 dead and 23 wounded.
No group has claimed credit for the attack, but some reports said the ISIS terrorist group carried out the suicide bombing.
