India – Afghanistan Trade Show To Kick Off In Mumbai
USAID is supporting the second annual “Passage to Prosperity (P2P): India – Afghanistan International Trade and Investment Show” which will kick-off in Mumbai, India on September 12, 2018.
AVA- The trade show will serve as a platform for international traders and investors to connect with Afghan sellers for a range of products and services, including agriculture, textiles, gems and jewelry, education, healthcare and energy.
P2P comes on the heels of a USAID-funded trade mission to India in July 2018, which generated $78 million in signed agreements for Afghan agricultural products.
USAID Mission Director Herbie Smith said, “We are working with international buyers and investors to link them with Afghan private sector partners such as processors and traders to ensure that more Afghan farmers can sell their products for good prices, feed their families and educate their children.”
Agriculture is at the heart of Afghanistan’s economy and provided over $700 million in annual exports in 2017. USAID agriculture programs are making a concerted effort to increase exports. Since October 1, 2017, USAID-supported agricultural programs facilitated over $181 million in sales for Afghan sellers.
All of USAID’s agriculture programs cooperate and coordinate closely with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock to ensure program activities align with the Government of Afghanistan’s National Comprehensive Agriculture Development Priority Program. USAID agricultural assistance is designed to address the growing problem of unemployment, to create sustainable jobs, alleviate poverty, and drive agriculture-led economic growth.
