Afghanistan to shift to Qatar seven prisoners sought by Taliban: sources
Afghanistan will transfer to Qatar seven prisoners whose release has been demanded by the Taliban before peace talks, source told 1TV on Thursday.
Sources said that the prisoners will be transferred to Qatar based on a protocolthat they should be kept there.
Afghan government has released 4,880 out of 5,000 prisoners the Taliban are demanding before they enter into peace talks.
On Wednesday, First VP Amrullah Saleh said that six Taliban prisoners were on the blacklist of foreign countries and families of the victims have launched a campaign that relations would deteriorate if Afghan government releases them.
“That is why we suspended and called on the international community particularly US that either NATO and the West coalition speak to us with one voice or we won't consider one country to be representative of another country,” he said.
OnThursday, head of Afghan negotiating team, Masoom Stanekzai, said that the teamwill soon begin peace talks.
