Voice of Afghan Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Following the outbreak of cholera in the country, local sources confirm that more than six thousand people have infected cholera in the southwestern provinces of the country.
Sources in the provinces of Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan and Zabul have told 8 AM that most of these patients are children, and more than 100 of them have died.
This is while the health officials of Jawzjan Province also announced yesterday in a conversation with Ava that more than seven thousand residents of this province were infected with cholera.
However, local people say that the number of patients is high and there are not enough doctors and medicine.
At least 1,000 residents of Ghazni and Daikandi provinces have infected cholera in the past 40 days.
Based on the figures of the health departments in these four provinces, since the outbreak of cholera, 4,000 people in Zabul, 1,200 people in Helmand, 770 people in Kandahar and 95 people in Uruzgan have been affected by the disease.
Cholera is an acute diarrheal disease caused by a bacteria called vibrio cholera. This Bacteria multiplies in the intestine by eating contaminated water after passing through the stomach and causes the release of poison (toxin) and increases the excretion of water and solutes from the intestinal wall, which is associated with the symptom of diarrhea; therefore, the microbe spreads in the environment through human feces and contaminates water and food.
