The American project to mine Afghanistan failed
SIGAR, or the Office of the US Special Inspector General for the Reconstruction of Afghanistan, has said in a new report that the US project failed after 17 years of effort and investment worth millions of dollars to develop and build capacity in the mining sector in Afghanistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: SIGAR or the Office of the US Special Inspector General for the Reconstruction of Afghanistan has said in a new report that the US project to develop and build capacity in the mining sector has failed.

According to this office, since 2002, America had spent more than 962 million dollars to attract investment in Afghanistan's mining sector.

America hoped that the previous governments could reduce the dependence of the Afghan government on foreign aid by extracting mines. However, SIGAR says that Karzai and Ghani could not achieve this goal due to "corruption and illegal mining" and "lack of mining infrastructure" in Afghanistan.

It is stated in the SIGAR report: After 17 years of efforts and investments worth millions of dollars, the US government could not solve the many challenges facing the development of Afghanistan's mines, and its achievements in this sector were insignificant and unsustainable.

According to SIGAR, the previous government and its western allies should have made investment attractive for foreign companies to develop the mines. But, the military office says that insecurity did not allow investment in the mining sector.

Although the US Geological Survey estimated the value of Afghanistan's mines at $3 trillion, few companies were willing to invest in Afghanistan in this field. Of course, Chinese companies were the exception and showed interest in investing. However, these companies also refused to start mining for "security reasons".

The officials of the Chinese company MSC, which won the Aynak copper mining contract in 2007, promised the Islamic Emirate once again in the month of Sagittarius that they would start the mining of this huge mine, but they did not specify a date for the start of their work.

In the SIGAR report, the Ministry of Commerce and the International Development Agency of the United States have been criticized for not effectively monitoring the development projects of Afghanistan's mines and implementing them regardless of the challenges. SIGAR says that these programs did not achieve any of their goals despite American investment.
