Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: According to Reuters news agency, Michael McCall, the head of the Foreign Relations Committee of the US House of Representatives, which has started an investigation into the chaotic withdrawal of the US from Afghanistan, gave the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until Monday.
Republicans and some Democrats in the US House of Representatives say that a full account of the chaotic exit in which 13 US soldiers were killed at Kabul Airport has not been provided.
The head of the foreign relations committee of the US House of Representatives said in a statement that Blinken forced him to issue his first subpoena as the head of the foreign relations committee. He added that this summons will be delivered this morning (Tuesday, March 28, 2023).
The Wall Street Journal reported in 2021 that about 22 American diplomats in Afghanistan had sent a secret telegram to Blinken in July 2021, through a so-called opposition channel, warning of the possible fall of Kabul to the Taliban when American forces leave the country.
It seems that the Foreign Relations Committee of the House of Representatives wants an explanation about this telegram.
Blinken said during last week's hearing that the department has already shared information and is working to provide more information, but that some specific details can only be shared with senior officials.
In response to Reuters' request for comment on the subpoena, a spokesperson for the US State Department pointed to Muharram Telegraph and said: "Keeping the opposition channel confidential is vital for us."
He said the Foreign Ministry is "ready to make available the relevant information in the telegram through briefings or some other mechanism."
The manner of America's withdrawal from Afghanistan is heavily criticized by congressional Republicans.
