Having good relations with Iran is part of the policy of the Islamic Emirate
The members of the Political Commission of the Islamic Emirate, while stressing the observance of the Helmand River Agreement between Iran and Afghanistan, called having good relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran a part of the Islamic Emirate's policy.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The press office of the Prime Minister's Office published a newsletter today (Sunday, May 28, 2023) and said that the regular meeting of the Political Commission of the Islamic Emirate was held under the chairmanship of Maulavi Abdul Kabir, Political Deputy and Acting Minister of the Islamic Emirate.

In this meeting, which was attended by Mullah Abdul Latif Mansour, Acting Minister of Water and Energy, in addition to discussing other important issues, there was also a detailed discussion regarding the title of the Islamic Republic of Iran and all its aspects were evaluated in detail and carefully.

In this meeting, considering the legal aspects, emphasis was placed on the agreement signed between Kabul and Tehran in 1351 AH, and to solve this problem, compliance with this agreement was considered the appropriate solution.

The members of the political commission emphasized on good and positive relations with neighbors, especially Iran, and called having good relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran as part of the policy of the Islamic Emirate.

Meanwhile, according to reports, a military clash took place between the forces of the Islamic Emirate and the Iranian border guards in "Makki" area of Kong district of Nimroz province yesterday.

Abdul Nafi Takor, the spokesman of the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Emirate, said in a tweet: "Today, in Nimroz province, Iranian border forces fired at Afghanistan, which was met with a counter-reaction."

The spokesman of the Ministry of Interior added that the issue has been brought to the elders of both sides and now the situation is under control. He emphasized that the Islamic Emirate does not want to fight with its neighbors.

According to the media, after the start of the conflicts, correspondence and contacts are established between the Iranian embassy in Afghanistan and the Ministry of Defense of the Islamic Emirate. Accordingly, after the end of the conflicts, the two sides are investigating the cause of this tension.

It is said that following the discussion between Iranian and Afghan officials about yesterday clashes in the east of Zabul, it has been decided to send a joint fact-finding committee to the region and investigate the whole story.

Recently, Iranian officials criticized the Islamic Emirate for not respecting the country's water rights. In this regard, Iran's President Ayatollah Raisi recently said during a trip to Iran's Chabahar region regarding the country's water rights from Helmand: "I warn the rulers of Afghanistan to give the water rights to the people of Sistan and Baluchistan immediately."

The president of Iran added: "If our experts confirm the lack of water, we have nothing to say, otherwise we will not allow the rights of our people to be violated, and this issue is not something that is subject to the passage of time."

The Islamic Emirate also issued a statement in response to the words of Ayatollah Raisi and said that the Islamic Emirate is committed to the treaty half a century ago regarding the sharing of Helmand water, but there is not enough water due to drought.

Iranian officials emphasize that the Islamic Emirate's claim about the lack of water should be verified by a joint technical committee.

In this regard, Hussain Amir Abdullahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in response to the Islamic Emirate's statement regarding Iran's right to water from the Helmand Sea, wrote in a tweet that the lack of water was a technical and objective visit and not a political statement issued by Islamic Emirate has been established.

However, the reactions of the officials of both countries were not limited to this amount, and in the past days, various officials of both sides have commented on the issue of Helmand's water rights.

I have to say; Afghanistan and Iran have signed a treaty to share Helmand river water in 1351 AH.

Iranian officials say that according to this treaty, 820 million cubic meters of water should enter Iran from Afghanistan every year in wet years; but they claim that Iran does not receive this amount of water.
