At least 30 people have died in Afghanistan due to heavy rain and flash floods. Ministry officials said.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, The ministry’s spokesman, Mohammad Shafi Rahimi, said that 26 deaths occurred in Jalrez district, 46 Km east of Kabul after the rain washed away hundreds of dwellings, most of which were made of mud and earth, Reuters reported.
“A total of 26 people were killed, 44 others injured, and 36 more people went missing in rainstorms and flooding that swept through parts of eastern Wardak province late Saturday,” Rahimi told reporters.
According to Rahimi, four more people were killed in Kabul, 70 people were injured in both the district, and at least 40 other people were missing.
The injured people were taken to the local hospital for medical treatment.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, released a statement of condolence in which he urged relief organizations and the Kabul administration to assist the grieving families.
The officials also said that at least 250 cattle had been killed, more than 400 residential houses had been destroyed, and dozens of acres of agricultural land had been submerged in the flood.
Last year’s seasonal flooding killed several people in Afghanistan, destroying hundreds of residential houses and livestock.
