The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution condemning any violence against holy books and their desecration as a violation of international law.

Al Jazeera news channel reported on Tuesday evening that the Secretariat of the United Nations General Assembly issued a statement announcing that the member states of the United Nations unanimously passed a resolution condemning any acts of violence against religious beliefs, religious symbols and holy books and that such actions violate the laws. Based on this report, the 193-member General Assembly of the United Nations unanimously approved the resolution presented by Morocco on Tuesday.
 
According to the clauses adopted in this resolution, the United Nations General Assembly strongly condemns all acts of violence against people based on their religion or beliefs, as well as any act against religious symbols, scriptures, homes, businesses, properties, schools cultural centers or places of worship, as well as condemning any attack on religious places, places of worship and religious shrines, and declared such actions as a violation of international laws.
 
Condemning violence against scriptures, the resolution described such violence as "acts of religious hatred".
 
The resolution of the United Nations General Assembly was approved following the numerous desecrations of the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark and the anger and reaction of the governments and Muslim nations of the world towards these insults.
 
America, England and Belgium on behalf of the European Union opposed the adoption of this resolution, but the Human Rights Council approved it with a decisive vote.
