UNSC Strongly Condemns Attack on Imam Zaman Mosque in Baghlan
Through an official statement, the United Nations Security Council strongly condemned the attack on the Imam Zaman Mosque in Pol-e-Khumri.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, In a statement from this office, it is stated that “The members of the Security Council once again emphasize that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is one of the most serious threats to peace and security in Afghanistan and the world.”
Imam Zaman Mosque in Pol-e-Khumri city, the capital of Baghlan province, was attacked during Friday prayers, attended by Shi’ite worshippers, leading to international outrage.
 
According to reports, the nature of this attack was suicide in nature, resulting in more than 30 deaths and dozens of injuries.
 
Mustafa Hashemi, the head of Information and Culture for the Islamic Emirate administration, confirmed the death of seven individuals and injuries to 17 others in this incident.
 
Furthermore, the United Nations Security Council has called for accountability from the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and supporters of these terrorist acts. It emphasizes that all countries must fulfil their commitments to combat terrorism following international laws.
 
Richard Bennett, the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights of the United Nations, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), the Iranian Embassy in Kabul, Rina Amiri, the U.S. Special Envoy for Human Rights and Women in Afghanistan, along with several political figures, have condemned this attack.
 
It is worth noting that the ISIS group has claimed responsibility for this attack.
