UNICEF: One Million Children in Gaza Need Mental Health Support
UNICEF estimated that almost all the children in the Gaza Strip require mental health support.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Monitoring: Prior to October 7, the agency estimated that 50,000 children were in need of help, The Middle East reported.
“They present symptoms like extremely high levels of persistent anxiety, loss of appetite. They can’t sleep, they have emotional outbursts, or they panic every time they hear a bombing,” UNICEF’s Chief of Communication for the Occupied Palestinian Territories Jonathan Crickx said on Friday.
The UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell also said on Friday “the situation for children in Gaza grows bleaker every day”.
She called on the international community not to let the children of the war-torn enclave down.
“The world cannot abandon them,” she wrote on X, sharing a UNICEF statement from earlier in the week.
Israel has launched a deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip since an October 7, 2023 attack by the Palestinian group Hamas, killing at least 27,019 Palestinians and injuring 66,139 others./Fars News
