Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Ministry of Public Health of the Government of the Islamic Emirate has asked people to register for free surgery for children with "cleft lip".

The ministry announced on X social network that the process of registering children with cleft lip began on Sunday of this week at the Kabul Children's Health Hospital and will continue until Tuesday.

The Ministry of Public Health added that the surgery of these children will take place in a ten-day period with the help of a team of Bangladeshi doctors.

On the other hand, Dr. Mohammad Iqbal, the head doctor of the Children's Health Hospital in Kabul, said: Three Bangladeshi doctors have come and within ten days, with the help of their health team, they will perform free surgery on children with cleft lip who register.

At the same time, some families whose children are suffering from cleft lip say that due to economic problems, they cannot operate their children at their own expense.

They are happy that their children are operated for free.

Homayoun Yaqoubi, whose ten-month-old son, Sajjad Ahmed, has a cleft lip, said: "We tried very hard to do the surgery privately, but the cost was high and we could not. Now that we have received information that this operation will be free for the child's health, he is very happy. "We are so happy that the ground was prepared for our child to undergo surgery."

Bahar Katwazi, a resident of Logar, says that Mohammad Naeem, his three-year-old niece, is suffering from cleft lip and brought him to Sahat Tafil Hospital in Kabul for free surgery.

He said: "We thank you very much, we cannot operate this child at our own expense, now we are very happy that the child is being operated for free, we thank the doctors."

At the same time, Abdul Ghafarghiur, an Afghan doctor who came to Afghanistan from Turkey at the beginning of the month of Aquarius, told Azadi Radio that he has performed cleft lip and palate surgery on about 500 children in different provinces for free.

According to doctors, the cost of cleft lip surgery is worth 60,000 Afghanis, which most people cannot afford.

According to doctors, the use of medicines without doctor's advice during pregnancy and lack of adequate nutrition during pregnancy are the main causes of cleft lip and palate problems in babies.
