Today, Saturday, June 8 Tehran will host an important meeting about the future of Afghanistan; The meeting of the regional contact group with the presence of special representatives of Iran, China, Russia and Pakistan for discussion and consultation about the Doha 3 meeting and the agenda of this meeting. This one-day meeting will start on Saturday morning at the International and Political Studies Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tehran, which is also the location of the country's presidential special representative office for Afghanistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: Seyed Rasool Mousavi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director General of South Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, wrote in a message on his X page about the meeting of the regional contact group in Tehran: the consultation of the special representatives of Iran, Pakistan, China and Russia regarding the future of Afghanistan are on the agenda of this meeting.
He said: Tehran meeting will be a message of peace, stability and development for Afghanistan and the region in the light of regional cooperation and integration.
However, unlike the first meeting of the regional contact group in Tehran, Asif Ali Khan Durrani, the special representative of the Prime Minister of Pakistan for Afghanistan affairs, is supposed to travel to Tehran to participate in this meeting.
At the same time, "Express Tribune", a publication close to Pakistan's army, wrote in an article entitled "A new challenge for Pakistan": increasing the interaction of the region with the Islamic Emirate does not have a good perspective for Pakistan and is a new challenge for this country.
Earlier, the special representative of Russia in Afghanistan said that the meeting of the regional contact group on Afghanistan will be held on Saturday next week with the presence of the special representatives of Russia, Iran, China and Pakistan to discuss the Doha 3 meeting in Tehran.
Zamir Kabulov told the Russian TASS news agency in this regard: "We have discussed with the representatives of the Afghan leadership about the preparation for the next and third meeting of the special representatives for Afghanistan, and the Secretary General of the United Nations in Doha. This meeting will be held in Doha on June 30 to July 1, but before that, we will meet in Tehran this Saturday.
He added that this meeting is the so-called "Moscow Format Contact Group" and includes Iran, China and Pakistan in addition to Russia.
Kabulov noted that the discussions at the Tehran meeting will be focused on preparations for the Doha meeting.
But he did not say whether the Islamic Emirate was invited to the meeting in Tehran. Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not said anything about this.
The regional contact group is a group that was formed with the presence of special representatives of Iran, Russia, China and Pakistan and at the suggestion of Iran in the previous year's meeting of the Moscow format in the city of Kazan, Russia. Previously, the first meeting of this contact group was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate in Kabul.
The United Nations, Qatar and the European Union have put a lot of pressure on the Islamic Emirate to participate in the Doha 3rd meeting, but the caretaker government of Afghanistan has made participation in this meeting conditional on accepting some of its demands and preconditions.
