Why Bashar al-Assad
The UAE is one of the countries that, after the 2011 crisis in Syria, provided all-round support to the opposition of the ruling regime in Damascus. Nevertheless, after the defeat of the terrorists in Syria and the proof of maintaining the system and territorial integrity of this country, Abu Dhabi has changed its approach towards Syria in the last two years and while reviving relations with Damascus, it is trying to warm bilateral relations.
Sayed Rezi Emadi; Iran Press/ After the magnificent welcome, he met and talked with the President of the Emirates. In this regard, according to the statement of the President of Syria, Bashar Assad was welcomed by the President of the UAE, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, upon entering the Abu Dhabi airport, and then the two sides went to the "Al-Watan" palace in Abu Dhabi to start negotiations.

It is stated in this statement that a number of fighters escorted Bashar al-Assad's plane when it entered the UAE airspace as a sign of welcome. Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, also said in his meeting with Bashar al-Assad: "We had a positive and constructive dialogue in order to develop brotherly relations that benefit the two countries and two brotherly nations."

Bashar Assad's visit to the UAE is his second visit to this country in the last year. Bashar al-Assad also visited the United Arab Emirates in March 2022. This was Bashar al-Assad's first visit to an Arab country after 11 years of civil war in Syria. Recently, the UAE Foreign Minister met and talked with Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.

Another important issue is that Asma al-Assad traveled to Abu Dhabi UAE with her husband Bashar al-Assad, the President of the Republic of Syria. Asma al-Assad has not traveled abroad since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011. This trip shows the normalization of the situation in Syria and the warming of relations between Damascus and the Arab countries, especially the UAE.

One of Bashar al-Assad's goals in his visit to the UAE is related to the recent earthquake. Now al-Assad arrived in Abu Dhabi for the second time in a year, when this country witnessed a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake last month along with Turkey, which killed and injured tens of thousands and caused heavy financial losses. Sympathies and regional convergence with Syria has been accelerated by the devastating earthquake. It seems that one of the goals of Bashar al-Assad in his visit to the UAE today is related to the recent earthquake, and the President of Syria is trying to attract financial aid from the UAE for the reconstruction of Syria, including the reconstruction of the earthquake-affected areas.

Another point is that the UAE is one of the Arab countries that is trying to return Syria to the Arab world, including the Arab League. Therefore, it is likely that during al-Assad's visit to Abu Dhabi and his meeting with Mohammed bin Zayed, the parties will discuss Syria's return to the Arab League.

The final point is; Bashar al-Assad's visit to the UAE was made immediately after his visit to Russia. Last Tuesday, al-Assad traveled to Moscow and met and talked with Russian President Vladimir Putin and some other officials of this country. Now the trip to Abu Dhabi shows that the political and security disorder in Syria has ended and the Syrian president is trying to use foreign policy and diplomatic meetings to prove his legitimacy.
