Kabul hopes action against all forms of terrorism will speak louder than words
Addressing the U.N. General Assembly on Afghanistan in New York on Monday, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah said that Kabul hopes that action against all forms of terrorism will speak louder than words.

AVA- Abdullah said that fostering stable and constructive relations with neighbours, especially Pakistan remains a key component of Afghanistan’s peace strategy.

“President Ashraf Ghani and I hope that this time around, action against all forms of terrorism will speak louder than words,” Abdullah said.

The official also noted that changing the status quo can only be possible when “terror subsides, infringement on our territory comes to a halt and safe havens are shut down.”

“Failure to do so will have negative consequence and result in further tension or worse,” he warned.

During his speech, Abdullah also welcomed U.N.’s adoption of annual resolution on Afghanistan saying it “signals the overwhelming support of the world behind us.”

He said that Afghan forces have effectively thwarted attempts by the Taliban and Haqqani network, al-Qaeda, Daesh and other terror groups from making any notable gains, or capturing a major urban center.

“We are not dealing with one, but several terror outfits that either mirror each other under different labels or indirectly support overlapping agendas,” he said.

Highlighting that new U.S. strategy for Afghanistan is condition-based with clear focus on resolving the problem of regional terrorist sanctuaries, Abdullah hoped that it will get Afghanistan closer to peace and stability.

“There is no good or bad terrorist or violent extremist,” Abdullah said. “We need to agree to fight all forms and shades of terror. We can and should no longer harbour or support one group while fight another and claim to be fighting terrorism in all its dimensions.”
