Osmani secures parliament’s trust vote to remain as energy and water minister
Ali Ahmad Osmani secured the trust vote of the Afghan parliament to remain as the minister of energy and water of Afghanistan.

AVA- The lawmakers in the Lower House of the Parliament, Wolesi Jirga, unanimously voted in favor of Mr. Osmani after he was impeached to brief the Lower House regarding the expenditure of the development budget of the ministry.

The Lower House lawmakers on Sunday decided to summon Mr. Osmani after reports emerged that the ministry under his leadership has failed to spend more than 60 percent of the development budget.

However, during today’s session, Osmani received 124 confidence against 32 votes of no confidence to secure his post as the minister of water and energy.

The Lower House counted six votes casted for Osmani as invalid while he had received one blank vote from the lawmakers present in today’s session.

This comes as the Lower House last year summoned several ministers of the cabinet of the government of national unity due to the circumstances surrounding the expenditure of the development budget.

Several cabinet ministers including some key security ministers were dismissed by the lawmakers after they failed to provide satisfactory briefing to the House.

In the meantime, reports emerged earlier suggesting that the decision for the impeachment of Osmani was taken by certain lawmakers who had specific personal demands from the minister.
