The governor of eastern Laghman province Mohammad Asif Nang says the counter-terrorism clearance operations codenamed Qahr-1 are being conducted with full momentum in the restive parts of the province.
He made the remarks during a press conference in Allisheng district and said the operations are part of the spring offensive to suppress the militants.
Nang further added that the operations kicked off a week ago and at least 23 militants have been killed so far while 12 others have sustained and one suspect has been detained.
Provincial security chief and the commander of the first brigade of the armed forces said the Afghan forces have also discovered and defused at least 16 improvised explosive devices so far while 30 kgs of explosives, 14 rockets, 2 mortars, ammunition, and a vehicle have also been confiscated along with 5 motorcycles, armored vests, and several other types of military kits.
In the meantime, governor Nang said the Afghan forces and the local residents have not suffered any casualty during the operations as he hailed the security forces for their bravery and ensuring required measures to protect the civilians.
According to Nang, at least 35 big and small villages have been cleared from the militants and voting centers which were under the threats of the militants have been secured.
