Ghani links Pakistan’s prosperity to regional cooperation
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani says Pakistan will not be able to gain access to Central Asian countries without regional cooperation.
Addressing youth, civil society activists and social activists from Paktia province on Monday evening, he said Afghanistan could reach India even without cooperation from Pakistan.

But Pakistan could not find its way to Central Asia without using Afghanistan’s territory, the president told a delegation of youth from Paktia, according to a statement from his office.

“We want Pakistan to stop its unannounced war against Afghanistan and acknowledge Afghanistan’s sovereignty. A stable Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan and the region at large,” Ghani remarked.

In the absence of regional cooperation, the economic growth of Pakistan was not possible, he reiterated, asking the neighbour to cooperate sincerely with efforts at stabilising Afghanistan.

“We understand the value and price of peace. There is a need for national consensus in this regard. All public concerns have to be answered,” he stressed.

Ghani claimed the global community, regional countries, the Muslim Ummah and the nation had reached consensus on peace in the country. There was no need for permission from anyone for peace, a basic demand of the people, he maintained.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Samiullah Paiwand and Syed Rahman Niyazi hailed the government’s active diplomacy on foreign relations, water management, eradication of corruption, the fight against powerful individuals and enforcing the rule of law.

They paid tribute to the president for his hard work for the development and success of the country. They also demanded acceleration of construction of roads, health facilities, pine nut-processing factories and hiring of youth employment.

The president assured the visiting delegation of fast-track development projects and provision of basic health facilities for the people, the statement concluded.
